Wrinkles - The Endless Pursuit To Satisfy Our Vanity

When we see that first fine line, many of us wonder what causes wrinkles. Doctors and dermatologists maintain that there are many contributing factors. Naturally, over time there is a breakdown of DNA, collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, oil and other supporting materials in the dermis. This we can't exactly prevent. People with severe wrinkling are often genetically predisposed. However, sun damage is one of the biggest contributors to premature wrinkles, as is dehydration caused by natural and environmental factors.

One way of treating wrinkles is to shop for anti aging skin care products. Wrinkle reducer creams aim to restore some of the lost nutrients, vitamins and enzyme "triggers" that the body has inadvertently washed away over time. Vitamin A, B, C and E can be taken in supplement form or topically to help your body get back on track and rejuvenate on its own again. Anti wrinkle products like Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Anti Wrinkle cream, L'Oreal's Line Eraser, Oil of Olay's Age Defying Anti Wrinkle cream or Garnier's Nutritioniste Ultra-Lift Anti Wrinkle cream can all be purchased at your local supermarket for less than $20.

More high-end, brand-name products are available at department store makeup counters. For instance, Estée Lauder's Diminish Anti Wrinkle is available for $80, Lancome's Renergie for $77 or Christian Dior's Capture R60/80 for $80. The latter is said to "deliver a cocktail of powerful ingredients directly to the wrinkle." Spas also offer select lines of anti aging skin solutions - like Epicuren, used by Jennifer Aniston and Brooke Shields who swear by the product.

Science and innovation comprise the base of the latest treatment creams. For instance, emu oil has been recently discovered to have regenerative and lifting properties. Dremu Oil has become the anti wrinkle cream of the celebrities, garnering endorsements from Catherine Zeta-Jones and Goldie Hawn to Cindy Crawford and Tyra Banks. Another new innovation centers on controversial stem cell research. Amatokin's Emulsion For the Face goes for $190 for a one month supply but is said to drastically improve the skin's appearance; reducing fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes and skin tightness.

Prescription-strength creams can be administered for people who are concerned about their wrinkles. For example, dermatologists traditionally recommend Retinol-A, which is a fat-soluble vitamin associated with skin and tissue re-growth. A new system doctors may prescribe is the ELASTIderm Decolletage System. With ELASTIderm, patients receive a skin lightening formula with 4% hydroquinone and a bi-mineral, malonic acid all in one. The end result is an anti wrinkle cream that restores the skin's natural pigmentation, which rejuvenates the color and texture of the skin, as well as revitalizes elasticity, which strengthens underlying collagen and diminishes wrinkles.

There are other specially tailored products for wrinkles around the lips and eyes. Because the skin is so thin in these areas, they're particularly susceptible to unpleasant lines and wrinkles. You can find Allure Magazine favorite, Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Recovery, Relastin's Eye Silk, or Lancome's Absolute Eye in most department stores. For contour lines around the mouth, try the Dr. Denese New York's Perfect Pucker Line Filler with Pro-Peptide Factor, a celebrity favorite.

No one can look young forever. Not even Joan Rivers or Dick Clark is completely immune to the signs of aging. Sure you could get cosmetic surgery to erase those wrinkles but there are better methods that are less invasive and far cheaper. Why not try some of the new wrinkle creams on the market? They can reduce the signs of aging and provide you with a healthy, glowing complexion that will have your friends and family wondering if you have undergone the knife during some cosmetic surgery. How Can Celebrity, Homemade and Basic Wrinkle Cream Help You In Your Quest For a Youthful Look?

Aging is an inevitable part of life. Whether it is crow's feet or deep wrinkles, these unsightly sags, ripples and lines can undermine our confidence. The wrinkle cream market is convoluted, with many promises and less delivery. Many consumers wonder what they should be looking for in an anti wrinkle cream and what breakthrough products are proving highly effective.

Retinoid creams containing vitamin A are a favorite among actresses in their twenties. Some dermatologists swear off antioxidants, peels, scrubs and injections, in favor of reinoids when it comes to taking years off your face. Your doctor can prescription retinoids like Renova, Tazorac and Retin-A (the product Cher credited her youthful looks with), or you can opt for less potent, over-the-counter wrinkle creams, such as Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Intensive Face Lotion SPF 20.

Imagine wrinkle creams made of emu oil! Halle Barry, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Cindy Crawford, Goldie Hawn and Jennifer Lopez reportedly use Dremu Oil, which is sometimes referred to as "the face lift in a jar." The anti-aging, anti wrinkle Dremu Oil can penetrate up to seven layers of skin and contains fatty acids that restore the body with elasticin, collagen and moisture. Dremu Oil has been featured in magazines like Vogue, Harpers, as well as Beauty and Fashion. A bottle will run you around $53.

In addition to being endorsed by Bo Derek, the TNS Recovery Complex system was featured on Oprah and The View. Some Researchers have called it the "Best Anti- Wrinkle Cream" for its ability to improve wound healing by using Nouricel-MD - a solution containing human amino acids, antioxidants, matrix proteins and soluble collagen with 93% concentration. Nouricel-MD helps reverse sun-caused skin damage, aging skin spots, elasticity and texture. Be aware that this is one of the more expensive wrinkle treatments on the market, going for $123 for the TNS Recovery Complex or $250 for the TNS Regeneration System.

Then again, some of us mad scientists would rather concoct our own all-natural wrinkle cream. Recipes vary all over the internet, but an easy one to try contains 2 tbsp cucumber juice, 1 egg white, 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 tsp rum or brandy and 1.2 tsp of Sodium Benzoate. Just beat the egg whites and add the rest of the ingredients, keeping your mixture refrigerated. Apply this as needed, or try a coconut oil massage around the eyes before bed time. Some people even swear by an apple juice concoction made with both apple and green pineapples, or a banana mash left on for 10-15 minutes to heal fine wrinkles and cracked skin. A warm washcloth smeared in honey, then followed with cold water is a good all-natural, weekly skin treatment as well.

Treatments For Signs of Menopause

Starting with the moment we are first conceived right through to our dieing breath, how well we nourish our body plays an important role in determining our health, vitality and well-being. The immediate benefits of a nutritious diet are great body tone and brilliant health. It will build our immune system to help fight off colds, viruses and diseases, boost energy levels and improve physical performance.

In the long term, it will help protect against serious conditions such as cardiovascular disease, most cancers, diabetes, cataracts, and osteoporosis. If you're starting to experience menopause symtoms, now is a crucial time to be following a healthy menopause diet and incorporating specific foods, such as soya, is essential. Following a healthy diet can also help to ease a lot of the symptoms of menopause and help ensure you don't gain weight during this period.

As individuals, our interest in healthy eating and nutrition just gets bigger and bigger every day. Doctors, our friends and family all have their own opinions on what a healthy diet is all about. With this level of information overload, it can be hard to know who to believe or what to eat. On top of this, a lot of the time it appears as though all the health gurus are regularly changing their direction and coming up with something new.

Believe it or not the original advice on what makes up a healthy, balanced diet has not altered in several decades.

What Is In A Balanced Diet

A nutritious diet consists of several important elements or ingredients but one of the most important is balance. Nutritionists split foods into five primary food groups. To ensure that you get all the nutrients your body needs, you'll want to ensure you eat some food from all of the 5 groups each day.

During menopause in particular, finding the balance will govern how much you suffer with menopause symptoms.

No 2 women experience the exact same menopause symptoms. On the whole, the symptoms of menopause for most women are relatively mild. For others, even though in the minority, the signs of menopause will be quite severe and could be quite a rough experience. If this is you, don't give up, because there's plenty of tried and tested menopause treatment options including natural herbal menopause supplements that make a big difference in easing your symptoms virtually entirely.

A Holistic Approach To Vision Care

Message

Improving Your Vision Naturally is a holistic approach to vision care.

The analysis of what we see occurs in the brain. Our eyes gather information in the form of light, our brain then takes this information and analysis it, creating our very own world of vision. When we practice vision care it does not only allow us to see better, it also helps us perceive our surrounding better.

Most people will use natural vision improvement to see better. These same people become surprised when they start to improve in unrelated areas, like sports.  They will more easily understand what they are reading, perhaps play better if they are musicians.  And, they may even become less stressed and become more creative Every person will  benefit in a different way from natural vision improvement.  But, everyone will  benefit.  Now, remember, that vision improvement may not work when there are certain conditions, or certain diseases present.

Dr Bates actually was the forefather of natural vision improvement.  He developed this theory many years ago.

You can actually do this system from home.  There is a reputable Rebuilding Your Vision system available.  Depending on your own health condition, the following could be helped by this holistic approach.

Are you nearsighted?
Or, farsighted.
Are you suffering from aging vision?
Or, astigmatism?
Even tired eyes can be helped.
Does bright light bother you?
Computer eye strain (CSS)
Or how aboaut any of these: strabismus and amblyopia, glaucoma, macular degeneration.

Become pro-active with your eye care.

Here are some of the benefits of vision improvement by natural means:
Increase how clear you can see long distance,
See clearer close up,
Learn how to focus quicker,
Your eyes will become healthier, stronger and more fit,
Learn how to manage computer related strain,
Reduce your need for glasses/contacts,
Improve your depth perception,
Adapt much faster to light changes, dark or light,
And, you will have better balance,  better results in activities that use your eyes.

We exercise and look after all the other parts of our bodies.  Many health minded persons go to the gymn so they can have a healthy body.  Why not do the same with our eyes.  Let's get involved in our eye care.

Your Eyes Are More Complicated Than The Biggest Computer

This mystery goes straight from the eyes to the brain...and then, where does it go from there?

I am searching and delving into the mystery of the eye.  How is it that our eyes are an actual extension of our inner being, a mirror to our soul and spirit?  What is it that our eyes are connected to that gives them so much life?  So much expression?

The eyes, as we all know by now, are more efficient than any computer created by man. We already know that the eyes are connected to the brain, physically. This connection makes the difference between what we see, and how our brain interprets what we see.  The eyes look...the bran tells us what we see when we look.

This is where the vast field of illusions comes into being.  We see what we see, our eyes do not fool us, but our brain does, it turns around and says “nope, that is not what you see...this is what you see”.  Amazing isn’t it.  Our brain and our eyes are at war.  Mostly the brain wins.

But, where does the physical eye connect to so that we are able to see hate in someone's eyes?So let me rephrase that.  How is it possible that we can express emotions in our eyes?  I mean, to actually see this emotion in the physical appearance of the eyes.  Where does that come from?  How does that happen?

This is why we all like to look into each others eyes when we talk.  When we love someone, we can stare for hours into our partner's eyes.  Obviously, it’s not just to look at two marble like objects.  So, where do our eyes connect so that we can see love in each other, actually see love physically?

What's that about, that our eyes can connect to our soul, our spirit, and convey what we feel?

I remember on one occasion, at someone's funeral, it was the first time I had a true glimpse into a friend's soul, just by looking into their eyes.  It is a moment I will never forget. EVER!

What about when you look at someone and you see hate?  Is that person allowing you to see this emotion, or, is this emotion a part of the natural process of us being human, and so it naturally shows itself?

We see hate in the eyes, we see love, fear, compassion and even confusion in the eyes.

How often have you looked deep into a friend’s eyes, and seen tenderness?

The eye is a little oval object in our body.  Yet, it seems to be able to hold the very essence of our being at any given time.

This mystery goes straight from the eyes to the brain...and then, where does it go from there?

Keep your eyes healthy for as long as you can.  Become pro-active in your eye care

Washboard abs the easy way

What is the best lower abdominal workout for six pack abs?

The internet is full of false claims about acheiving washboard abs. You can achieve the six pack abs you desire by adopting self discipline and putting in the hard work. Build washboard abs with our lower ab workout which takes literally minutes. Our abdominal workout combined with a good high protein low carb diet and a cardio workout and rest days will burn that unwanted belly fat. Save your hard earned money because you won't need expensive equipment. The abs are just another muscle and need to be worked at different intensitys. Our best lower abdominal workout for six pack abs is designed specifically to impart maximum intensity on the abs.

The Essential Warm-up

Warming up prior to every weight training session is a must.Warming up the muscles to improve blood circulation and preparing the tendons and ligaments is essential. You will find if you warm up thoroughly that you can actually lift heavier weights without the constant concern of muscle injury. Lets build those six pack abs.

Exercise 1 Ab Blasting Crunch

Forget normal crunches lets get advanced for greater results

Lie on the floor in the Crunch position, knees bent, hands over ears, or resting on the back of the head.

Raise up using your ab power 10 inches and hold the position for 6 seconds. Squeeze the abs in this contracted position. Then still keeping the tension on the abs return slowly and in a controlled fashion to the starting position, this should take 5 seconds. Repeat this sequence for as many reps as you can possibly do. Rest 30 seconds and finish with normal crunches.

Exercise 2 Hanging Leg Raises

Hanging Leg Raises are a superb exercise for building the lower abdominals.

Start by hanging from a lat chin up bar, hands shoulder width apart, arms fully extended.Raise your legs knees together to chest level and tense your abs with no swinging. Hold in this top position for a count of 5 seconds tensing the abs hard. Lower your legs slowly and repeat. For maximum effect make sure you do 10 reps.

Exercise 3 Pulley Rope Crunch

This exercise is my favourite for blasting those six pack abs.

Use a cable machine with a high pulley attach a rope and grab the end of the rope with your hands. Pull the rope down so that you are kneeling on the floor with your hands positioned just above your head, ensure that your hands stay firmly locked in this position. Using the power of your abs pull down from the waist until your elbows touch the floor and squeeze those abs. Make sure you do more than 10 reps. Perform this best lower abdominal workout everyday and you will soon have that abs six pack you so desire.

Unexplained Infertility

Infertility is a lot more common than most people think.  Believe it or not, about 1 in 10 couples experiences problems with conception at some point in their attempts.  This may be with their first child, or they may actually have problems conceiving after they’ve already had a child.  Usually the issues they are facing can be pinpointed by a medical doctor, but sometimes not.  This is called unexplained infertility, when their doctors are at a loss to find a reason for why they are having problems conceiving.

When does it become unexplained infertility?

It would be shortsighted to assume that with your first few months of trying to having a baby that you’re infertile, or that the first time your doctor scratched his or her head in confusion that this means you have unexplained infertility.  Medically speaking, a couple are not considered truly infertile until after a year of regular (twice a week on average) unprotected sex has not resulted in a pregnancy.  A year may seem like a long time to someone who wants a baby, but considering all the many details that need to work in harmony for conception, it’s really no wonder that doctors give them this long.

Additionally, there are many common causes for infertility that your doctor will want to check first, such as a woman’s inability to ovulate at all or to ovulate a healthy egg, and a man’s low sperm count.  These are probably the first two things that your doctor will check, but if these tests are negative or inconclusive, it doesn’t mean that you have unexplained infertility.

When you get the diagnosis of unexplained infertility.

For some couples, however, they have been through every test that is available and everything has come back in their favor, and yet, still no pregnancy.  The man may have healthy, active sperm, and the woman may be ovulating a healthy egg regularly, but again, conception is just not happening for them.  This is when the doctors begin to use the phrase unexplained infertility.

For these couples, there is still no reason to abandon hope.  Medical intervention may be necessary, but is usually successful.  If the woman has a healthy uterus that can support a fetus, the doctor may recommend in vitro fertilization, where an egg is extracted from her and fertilized with the man’s sperm in a lab, and then planted in her uterus to grow.  By manipulating the man’s sperm and the woman’s egg in such a way, there is nothing left to chance.  In most cases, this procedure is safe and successful, albeit expensive.

And of course there are other options available for any couple going through unexplained infertility, so again, there is no need to give up hope.  Talk openly and honestly to your doctor about your concerns, and listen carefully to your options.  The decision of course is yours to make, but in the end, you may be able to join other happy couples in welcoming home your new baby after all.

Free Weight Loss Programs

The race to fitness is on and a lot of people are getting into the band wagon. Some people do it to achieve a sexy body, some people just do it because they are embarrassed with the body they have now, while others do it simply to remain fit and heatlthy. As such, many fitness programs are out in the internet, in gyms, spas and fitness centers all over. Some are too expensive to afford that one may even lose weight just by trying to work out the money needed to pursue these fitness programs.

One may not have to go to the gym or the spa or any fitness center and spend much just to slim down to obtain that longed for sexy body. There are many books available in the bookstore which offer weight loss programs which are convenient and for free, of course the books are not though. These weight loss programs, or diet plans are gaining immense popularity with so much publicity, testimonials and reviews that one may be confused which exactly to follow. So before choosing which weight loss plan to follow, try reading these summaries about the most popular diet programs out today.  Uncover the Rapid Weight Loss Program.

Atkins' New Diet Revolution by Dr. Atkins. This weight loss program encourages high protein diet and a trim down on the carbs. One can feast on vegetables and meat but should fast on bread and pasta. One is also not restricted against fat intake so it is okay to pour in the salad dressing and freely spread on the butter. However, after the diet, one may find himself lacking on fiber and calcium yet high in fat. Intake of grains and fruits are also limited.

Carbohydrate Addict's Diet by Drs. Heller. This diet plan advocates low carbohyrate eating. Approves on eating meats, vegetables and fruits, dairy and grain products. however, warns against taking in too much carb. "Reward" meal can be too high on fats and saturated fats.

Choose to Lose by Dr. Goor. Restrains fat intake. One is given a "fat" budget and he is given the liberty on how to spend it. It does not pressure the individual to watch his carbohydrate intake. Eating meat and poultry as well as low-fat dairy and seafoods is okay. A go signal is also given on eating vegetables, fruits, cereals, bread and pasta. This weight loss plan is fairly healthy, good amounts of fruits and vegetables as well as saturated fats. Watch triglyceride levels though; if high, trim down the carbohydrates and tuck in more of the unsaturated fats.

The DASH Diet. Advocates moderate amounts of fat and protein intake and high on carbs. Primarily designed to lower blood pressure, the diet plan follows the pyramid food guide and encourages high intake of whole wheat grains as well as fruits and vegetables and low-fat dairy. Some dieters think it advocates too much eating to procure significant weight loss.  Uncover the Rapid Weight Loss Program

Eat More, Weigh Less by Dr. Ornish. Primarily vegetarian fare and strictly low-fat. Gives the go signal on the "glow" foods but warns to watch it on non-fat dairy and egg whites. This diet is poor in calcium and retricts consumption of healthy foods like seafoods and lean poultry.

Eat Right for Your Type. Interesting because it is based on the person's blood type. recommends plenty of mest for people with the blood type O. Diet plans for some blood types are nutritionally imbalanced and too low in calories. And for the record, there is even no proof that blood type affects dietary needs.

The Pritkin Principle. Focused on trimming the calorie density in eating by suggesting watery foods that make one feel full. Eating vegetables, fruits, oatmeal, pasta, soups, salads and low-fat dairy is okay. Although limits protein sources to lean meat, pseafood and poultry. Although it is healthy by providing low amounts of saturated fats and rich amounts of vegetables and fruits, it is also low on calcium and limits lean protein sources.

Volumetrics. For low-density calorie eating. Recommends the same foodstuff as Pritkin but restricts fatty or dry foods like popcorn, pretzels and crackers. This plan is reasonably healthy given the high amounts of fruits and vegetables as well as being low in calorie density and saturated fats.

The Zone. Moderately low on the carbs yet moderately high on the proteins. Encourages low-fat protein foods like fish and chicken plus veggies, fruits and grains. It is also healthy but lacking in grains and calcium.

Weight Watchers. High carbohydrates, moderate on fats and proteins. A very healthy diet plan and very flexible too. it allows the dieter to plan his own meal rather than give him a set to follow.

Diabetes Control Diet Will Helping Your Body Burn Fat; Not Insulin

When a person’s body begins to resist insulin that person will then be diagnosed as suffering from Type II diabetes, which in turn will lead to the presence of high levels of insulin in the body and that will then lead to the cells in the body being unable or even resist being able to absorb glucose. When this happens the blood sugar starts to reach heights that are not good for a person’s health, and that is when it becomes necessary to start thinking about diabetes control diet.

Starving Cells

When your body has begun to resist insulin your cells will then begin to starve, even if you have just eaten a meal. The starving cells causes the brain to interpret the starvations signals that it receives as being signs of real starvation and the brain will, in turn begin to release signals that cause a diabetic patient to feel hungry; especially for carbohydrates. The result? Stimulation of the production of insulin begins which then results in the cells beginning to absorb glucose.

The body must be controlled and prevented from burning glucose and this is where diabetes control diet comes in handy because it will teach you how to stop eating carbohydrates. What a proper diabetes control diet will do is help you channel the body’s intake in such a manner that it will start to burn fat instead of glucose. Use of a hormone known as glucagon (which is a hormone, like some others, that helps to make the body burn up fat) helps set off a process in which fat gets burnt up. In addition, glucagon also makes the body transform its existing reserves of fat into much needed glucose.

When the blood in your body contains insulin there is a cessation in the production of glucagon and when a diabetic has to inject insulin into the body he or she will inadvertently be injecting the very thing that is preventing their body from burning fat. A good diabetes control diet is the way out!

When you become aware of a diabetes control diet, you will immediately understand that it is necessary to lower the consumption of carbohydrates, sugar as well as flour, and instead, you must begin eating foods that contain more proteins. You would also do well to check out various kinds of diabetes diets and carefully evaluate each in order to conclude which of them the best diabetes diet is; and then follow the best one.

The main benefit to following a diabetes control diet is that you can get off taking in insulin and instead begin to eat low-carb foods which will help the cells in your body overcome their resistance to insulin and in turn, keep diabetes under control.

No More Bad Breath Guaranteed!

Bad Breath Causes

If you have ever tried to give your date a kiss and he or she puts a hand up to protect himself (herself) from your vile breath, you know how that feels. Probably that person did want your kiss, but was put off by your bad breath. What are the ways of fighting this disorder apart from daily brushing and flossing?

Determine The Cause Of Bad Breath First
Instead of just checking out all possible medications and therapies, it is necessary to find out what is the cause of the halitosis. Do keep in mind that particular foods, tobacco, periodontal problems and a dry mouth (xerostomia) can all be causative factors leading to bad breath.

Coffee Can Cause Bad Breath
Lots of people drink coffee which, coupled with morning breath, leads to dehydration, less flow of saliva and all these lead to more bad breath. This does not mean that you have to give up your morning coffee forever. There are some things you can do to get rid of bad breath for good.

Dry Mouth Is Another Main Reason
Talking about dry mouth, do you know that alcohol, too, causes dehydration? That is why you feel thirsty for water after drinking. Alcohol dries up the saliva which fights bacteria which causes bad breath. Because of increased alcohol consumption, chances of halitosis also increase and then your romance goes for a toss. Help your self combat this problem by chewing sugarless gum and don’t forget to drink water. Chewing gum helps increase the flow of saliva.

Proper Oral Hygiene
Daily brushing, tongue cleaning, flossing and a thorough rinsing should be an unavoidable part of your routine. Ideally this should be done after every meal or even every time you have eaten anything. Once again, eating proper foods helps in fighting bad breath. A diet which is rich in fruits and vegetables will help produce acid as also fiber which will prevent bad breath.

When you go to a shop or supermarket and see what is available for oral hygiene you will be surprised and bewildered at the sheer choice of products which are used to combat bad breath. All products are not equally good and, in fact, many over the counter products may not actually kill the bacteria which reside on your tongue.

If the halitosis is a chronic and recurring problem, these products may not do any good at all. Or they may help merely by making your breath a little better for a short time. But mouthwashes which contain zinc chloride can be of great help, as can prescription products, in doing a good job.

A simple remedy is hydrogen peroxide used as a rinse because it adds oxygen and the bacteria do not live in a hostile environment which is what oxygen is for the anaerobic bacteria. Plain water, too, helps in removing debris and food particles which are stuck between the teeth and gums and on the tongue. If you don’t use any of these remedies, then you are leaving yourself open to the bacteria multiplying and causing bad breath.

Your diet has an important role to play in the characteristic of your breath. The typical Western American diet can be an important cause of bad breath, especially if it is high caloric. A low calorie diet will not only help you lose weight, but also give you the added bonus of decreasing the incidence of bad breath.

Often, when you are eating out, especially in fine dining restaurants, the meal will be garnished with parsley which not only looks good, but also has a beneficial effect on your breath. It contains stuff which helps fight bad odor. So the next time don’t disregard the parsley or throw it away, but eat it after your food as a mouth freshener.

The 4 Top Menopause Remedies for You to Consider

Menopause is an unfortunate reality for all women as they get older and with it comes many painful and irritating symptoms. The purpose of this article is to give you some information on a variety of herbal and non-herbal treatments available that may be of help to you dealing with any symptoms you may feel. These include:

•    Phytoestrogens- Phytoestrogens are compounds that come from plants. These compounds are often used as a treatment for menopause because they have a similar genetic make up to the naturally occurring female hormone estrogen.
•    Wild Yam Creams- Whilst there is little medicinal evidence supporting the use of wild yam creams as a treatment for menopause is inconclusive, wild yam creams are still a highly popular over the counter remedy. Diosgenin is a compound in wild yams that can be synthesized in to progesterone, however the human body does not have the enzyme capable of this synthesis.
•    Herbal Medicines- Herbal remedies are also wildly popular in treating menopausal women. They may not be useful in treating menopause per se, but a naturopath or herbalist can prescribe herbal treatments to help alleviate symptoms associated with menopause.
•    Progesterone Treatments- Progesterone is a naturally occurring female sex hormone. It declines during menopause and some studies suggest that many menopausal symptoms are a direct result of an incorrect ratio between progesterone and estrogen levels. Progesterone remedies are normally taken in the form of a cream. Progesterone treatments can often be taken with other hormone treatments.

Menopause can be a painful and irritating time for women but there are a variety of treatments you can consider that may help alleviate your suffering. I have listed four popular treatments above and you may want to consider trying one or all of them to see which of these treatments work best for you.

Microdermabrasion Before and After Photo's and Advice

A most important influencing factor in making sure that your skin always looks young healthy and vibrant is to keep to a regular skin care regime. In their desperate search for the fountain of eternal youth our scientists have created all types of skin care products for our pleasure. Wonderful and wild statements are often delivered about the astounding results from using it regularly. Alarmingly these claims are often simply false and little or no, real, evidence actually exists. As more of us surf the Internet in the hope that we discover a product or treatment to keep our good looks, more of us are fooled by this type of advertising. Unfortunately microdermabrasion and skin care corporations are often as guilty of this practice as others.

Starting a regular skin care plan is simply the primary step in hitting the aims of vibrant, young and healthy looking skin. More often than not we have to go that little bit further and find something that works for us. In years gone by this meant aesthetic surgery but happily this is no longer the case as microdermabrasion is available.

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that is famous for it's brilliant results. It is, therefore, incredibly important that you attempt to discover the true degrees of their skills. One of the easiest and best ways to do this is to simply ask for examples of the results which previous customers experienced and also for any recommendations made by such. You could ask friends, colleagues and family members if they know of their reputation or have used their services themselves. If it is true that they have a good reputation then it is most probable that they are also good at microdermabrasion.

Acne Makeup Can Conceal

Although we all want to prevent acne breakouts on our faces, sometimes we have to address the blemishes we already have. It is good practice to put time and effort into keeping a clear complexion, but it's also good practice to look in the mirror and face the pimples. They are there and they will not simply vanish. Or will they?

Here is where acne makeup comes into play. You did everything you were supposed to do to keep your skin clear. You cleansed, exfoliated and used a good toner. You lightly moisturized without over-saturating your skin. Your pores should be clear and your skin should be glowing. Well, it’s glowing all right, glowing red with acne. Do not despair. Acne makeup can conceal those marks in no time at all.

Applying foundation can be tricky and it becomes even more perplexed when dealing with blemishes. Sometimes using too much acne makeup can make you look worse than you did when your face was bare. We have all seen the pitiful souls who try too hard to cover unsightly pimples. The foundation cakes and dries into a tell-tale clump of acne makeup that sticks out worse than the acne itself.

My mother always said that women should apply foundation sparingly and this general rule is good practice all the way around. This general rule applies to acne makeup as well. Putting more and more product over the problem will inevitably emphasise the initial problem. This turns a little pimple trouble into a major all around face disaster. Keep it clean and you will be amazed at how far a little acne makeup really goes.

Using less foundation will save you money in the long run as well and this is good news. There is more good news for acne makeup enthusiasts. There are beauty products available specifically for women who have blemishes that actually help to clear your complexion. This outstanding acne makeup is a dream-come-true for many of us. It treats the acne as it covers the blemishes. You not only have the benefit of hiding pimples, you also have the benefit of preventing future breakouts.

When it comes to applying foundation, remember that less is best. This includes acne makeup that promises to clear your complexion as it covers. Using less will make your skin look radiant and natural and using the right acne makeup will eventually make your skin naturally radiant.

Menopause, for women this is just another one of those events in our lives we just can not avoid. It is also frustrating for many women because there are not always hard answers to certain questions. Soy foods contain isoflavins which also reduce symptoms. Foods loaded with Vitamin D and Calcium are highly recommended. Beets or beet juice is considered a must when battling menopause as they are extremely rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals as well as carotenoids such as beta-carotene and lutein. Solutions for Getting Rid of Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are usually caused by a sudden loss or gain of weight. They are often triggered by such things as pregnancy, rapid weight loss or gain and even body building. Most people are unaware of the fact that this condition can also affect men. Statistics reports that around 40% of the male population have stretch marks on their body. Add to that all the women who are affected by this condition, I think it is fair to say that a very large number of people face this problem.

However, there are plenty of ways that can help in preventing and eliminating stretch marks. With the latest advances in technology, there are many options available that work and are an easy option. Here are some options you might want to consider for removing stretch marks.

Smooth them Away

There are many products in the form of lotions and creams that are designed with the unique purpose to help users reduce stretch marks. They can be very effective when used at the early stages of the process. People like women who are pregnant to body builders that would like to prevent the appearance of stretch marks on the various parts of their bodies, lotions and creams with the goodness of vitamins A, C and E are a good idea, especially when the cocktail also includes other minerals.

While vitamin E is very effective to reduce the appearance of stretch marks other vitamins and minerals represent an essential factor in maintaining the moisture balance and texture of the skin. Multiple reports indicates that the use of cocoa butter and shea butter also represent effective methods for gettin rid of stretch marks. But these last two options result in allergic reactions in some people and some caution is advised.

Laser Treatment and Abdominaplasty

Fully formed stretch marks can also be removed completely through a procedure known as abdominaplasty. Abdominaplasty requires a tummy tuck procedure which consist in removing the excess skin located around the stomach. Fat can also be removed from the area. This is probably the best treatment avaialble to completely remove stretch marks but it is a very drastic and expensive treatment. It is only a quick fix.

Laser therapy is another method that can help in getting rid of stretch marks. Though it is not as effective as abdominaplasty because it does not completely erase stretch marks from the skin surface, the results are quite dramatic. It is also a less expensive and less invasive method of getting rid of stretch marks.

What Are Benefits Of Meditation?

transcendental meditation

In many ways, people who live today have the most advantages and conveniences of any other period of human history, yet for some reason many of these advantages have resulted in people feeling even more pressured to do more and do it faster. With cellular phones, PDAs, and laptops glued to their sides, it is hard to even feel that they are ever actually away from work. Interestingly, the ancient practice of meditation might be the best way for modern people to cope.

There are numerous benefits to meditation. As more modern, mainstream medical practitioners look into meditation techniques, the more they have started to acknowledge some of these benefits. Of course, this is nothing new to a great many people and is simply what Eastern religious and cultural traditions have known for centuries.

But, it is a major shift when a mainstream US national newscast reports the findings that researcher have revealed. Various studies have found that cancer patients who engage in meditation practice, such as prayer, guided meditation or transcendental meditation, respond better to treatment.

The fact that this is a major news story in the Western world, and yet is simply a well-known fact in the Eastern world, is a clear indication of how far behind Western medicine is, with regard to integrating spirituality into healthcare approaches. In fact, to many in Eastern cultures it even seems laughable to waste time on a study of the benefits of meditation when in that part of the world it has been a fact of life and practice for as long as anyone can remember.

But, the news is that researchers in the Western world have proven through scientific means, that the regular practice of meditation is an effective, simple and safe way to balance a person's emotional, mental and physical state. As a result of this, it is commendable that more and more mainstream doctors are suggesting to their patients that they learn to meditate in conjunction with their traditional medical treatments. Many doctors have reported that meditations have helped their patients heal faster and respond better to various treatments and medications.

Of course, there are also many benefits even for those who are not undergoing any type of medical treatment, and many advocates of various meditation techniques say that a regular practice of meditating can help keep a person healthy and can actually be instrumental in warding off illness and disease. It is believed that one of the reasons for this is the fact that the meditation helps to keep stress and anxiety in check and since these are major contributors or triggers of many health issues, it is natural that those who meditate enjoy better health.

One of the primary benefits of the practice of meditation is the fact that it helps to significantly reduce levels of stress in the body. When people engage in meditation practice on a consistent basis, they are able to reach greater levels of inner contemplation and deeper relaxation. This in turn helps them to deal with the pressures and the worries that build up during the course of a day, and can help them to enjoy more calmness and peace in everyday life.

Infertility is More Common Than You Think

Couples who are dealing with the problem of infertility can often think that they are very alone in their concerns.  Most believe that pregnancy is easy, and may look around at the other couples with their bouncing bundles of joy as proof positive of this fact.  They may also have many friends and family members who announce one day that they are planning on starting a family, and who are seemingly pregnant immediately after.

But believe it or not, infertility is much more common than you might think.  It’s estimated that about 1 in every 10 couples that are attempting to have a baby, have some type of problem with infertility.  Imagine ten other couples that you know who have children, and you can make a safe bet that at least one of them faced some difficulty when it came to conceiving.  And when you think about this on a national scale, 1 in 10 couples means 5 to 6 million couples in the U.S. every year have some difficulty getting pregnant.

But what exactly defines the concept of infertility?  Simply put, this is when a couple is having regular (twice per week on average) unprotected sex and are still not pregnant after a year of trying.

This may be surprising news to some couples, who often assume that a month or so of trying is all that’s needed to signal a problem with infertility.  Not so, say doctors.  Because of the many details that need to align perfectly for a woman to conceive, it can actually take that many times trying before there is any need for concern.

Obviously it’s true that there are some who have a much more difficult time with conception than others; and of course there are many factors that will contribute to this problem.  Some couples seem to be much more fertile than others, and this may very well be the case.  Some men simply have a higher sperm count than average, and of course the more sperm he had, the greater his chance of having one reach a woman’s egg to fertilize it.  Additionally, some women have problems with ovulation and do not release a healthy, viable egg every month, so there may need to be a few months worth of attempts in order for her to conceive.

But while infertility is something that is more common than you might think, it is also a very personal issue.  You should never make the mistake of comparing your abilities to conceive to anyone else’s, even those in your own family.  Again, you may know of a couple who seem to be able to get pregnant just by talking about it, while you and your partner have been trying for weeks and months, but this isn’t necessarily a cause for concern.  Everyone’s body is different, everyone’s reproductive abilities are different as well.  If you are really concerned about whether or not you will need medical intervention or another way of helping you with your supposed infertility, then be sure to speak to your doctor, as only he or she will be able to know for sure.

Infertility in Men

The Common Causes for Infertility in Men

When a couple are facing problems with reproduction and conception, it’s very shortsighted and medically inaccurate to assume that it must always be the woman’s problem.  Infertility in men is the cause of reproductive issues in about half of the cases reported, so if you and your partner are having problems conceiving, you do well to investigate the common causes for infertility in men so as to handle these issues promptly and completely.  Here are the most common causes:

Low sperm count – the most common reason for infertility in men.

Yes, men typically have millions of sperm that they produce during each sexual encounter, however, these sperm are very fragile and very few actually survive the journey through a woman’s system to reach an egg to fertilize.  This is why it’s necessary to produce those millions!  But in reality, any one sperm reaching an egg to fertilize it is like winning the lottery – there are millions of tickets sold, but it’s unlikely that any one is the winner.  So, having a lower than normal sperm count makes it that much more difficult for conception to take place.  Since this is the most common reason for infertility in men, chances are that a doctor would want to take a sample of a man’s semen to test the sperm count before doing any other tests.

Low sperm motility.

To a human, the journey through a woman’s system to reach the egg dropped by the fallopian tubes is miniscule.  But to the tiny microscopic sperm, it may as well be miles long!  Any sperm that are not able to push themselves to get through that journey are going to die off before they make it, and again, sperm are very fragile to begin with.  Low sperm motility may not be the most common reason for infertility in men, but it is common enough that again, doctors will want to check the abilities of your “little swimmers” to make sure they can make it through their long journey.  If not, alternative means of conception may need to be explored.

Malformed sperm.

If the sperm are not formed properly, they will not be able to propel themselves along to make that arduous journey.  Malformed sperm is a common reason for infertility in men, and may also be one of the more common reasons for low sperm motility.  However, it’s important to remember that malformed sperm doesn’t mean that a child conceived with it is going to somehow be malformed or that this is a cause for birth defects; it simply means that again, there may need to be an alternative form of conception that is explored rather than relying on the natural course of action.

Blocked sperm ducts.

Many people mistakenly assume that every time a man ejaculates during sexual activity, that this contains sperm.  This is not necessarily true; only about 1-2% of a man’s semen is actually sperm.  Blocked sperm ducts are another common reason for infertility in men; he has no sperm at all in the ejaculate in these cases.

Fertility Treatment

Fertility Treatments

Some Common Medical Fertility Treatments

For some couples, they have tried to make all the lifestyle changes they possibly can, and realize that medical intervention is the only viable option for them.  In this case, what are some common fertility treatments for these couples?  What are the side effects, and are they typically successful?

Assisted Reproduction Fertility Treatments

Assisted Reproduction is the phrase used in the medical community to describe medical intervention for couples facing infertility.  Here are some common fertility treatments and how they work:

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI).  This procedure which is also known as artificial insemination is often combined with hormone treatments to boost egg production, and can help couples with low sperm count, unexplained infertility, or cervical mucus problems.  Semen is collected, and then delivered via a catheter inserted through the women's vagina and cervix to her uterus.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). IVF may help those with pelvic or tubal damage, or male infertility.  It is the most commonly used of all the fertility treatments available.  The woman takes drugs to stimulate egg production, which are surgically removed.  Then eggs and sperm (from her partner or a donor) are collected and combined outside the body, and inserted into her body to develop after fertilization takes place.  "In vitro" means "in glass" (that is, in a test tube or laboratory dish).

Sperm Donation. Fertility treatments do also include those necessary when a male partner is not present or does not have viable sperm.  This procedure is performed using sperm from a typically anonymous donor; of course, a sperm donor can be a male friend or associate.

Donated Egg. This can help those whose infertility problems are due to premature menopause or some other disruption of ovulation.

Surrogacy, Traditional and Gestational.  In traditional surrogacy, another woman carries and gives birth to a baby conceived with her egg and your partner's sperm (through artificial insemination).  In gestational surrogacy, the surrogate carries and gives birth to a baby conceived with your egg and your partner's sperm, then transferred as an embryo to her womb.

Fertility Treatments Available for You

The proper procedure that is best for you and your partner is one that only you or the two of you together can decide on, of course with your doctor’s help.  Many of these fertility treatments listed are very expensive, so of course your own personal budget will need to be considered.  Additionally, there are some who have religious beliefs or moral opinions about many of these fertility treatments, and of course this is a personal decision as well.  The bottom line is that while so many of these options are becoming more and more common, and safer as well, the final decision will need to be yours.  After all, you are the one who will need to live with the consequences and responsibility of this decision for the rest of your life.  So, speak openly and honestly with your doctor and be sure that you completely understand all of these many choices so as to make the most informed decision possible.

Natural Methods Are Sometimes the Best Fertility Treatment!

When dealing with the issues of reproductive challenges, most couples are appreciative of the fact that medical science offers them a wealth of options when it comes to fertility treatments, including drugs that help a woman ovulate, Assisted Reproduction Techniques (ART) such as in vitro fertilization, artificial insemination, sperm donation and the like.  However, some couples are still looking for natural methods that work as fertility treatments for themselves and their partners.  How can you go about assisting your own reproduction with such methods?  Are there any that actually work?  Let’s examine some of these issues here.

Be Careful of Your Medications

Sometimes an actual fertility treatment is not necessary, as you realize that conception is being hindered by the medications you’re taking, either for the man or the woman.  Some drugs, such as those to treat high cholesterol or diabetes, interfere with a woman’s ovulation abilities and a man’s sperm production.  Before investigating medical alternatives as a fertility treatment, speak with your doctor about your prescription medications.  There are some that of course you cannot stop taking as it will cause you serious health problems, but there may be adjustments that can be made, or other medications to take that will help to offset these issues with reproduction.

It’s also noteworthy that over the counter and homeopathic medicines can have the same effect, so don’t forget to mention these to your doctor as well.

Good Sex as a Fertility Treatment

Because a man’s sperm needs to travel a long distance (or at least to the microscopic sperm, it seems like a long distance!) in order to reach an egg to fertilize, it’s best to be mindful of your sex practices and whether they’re helping or hindering this journey.  The “missionary” position, or man on top, is always recommended when a couple is trying to get pregnant.  Other positions such as the woman on top, sitting, standing, and anything else that interrupts the natural flow of sperm and causes it to work against gravity is only going to make the sperm need to work that much harder.

When considering a fertility treatment for yourself, you should definitely give some attention to your sexual practices first, as a simple change in your habits can go a long way (no pun intended) toward helping that sperm reach its goal.

Other Natural Fertility Treatments

Reducing stress, smoking cessation, and a good diet along with regular physical exercise are always recommended before trying a medical fertility treatment, as these things can help the body address and even repair any issues it may have with the reproductive system.  Soaking in hot water can kill sperm, so the man should avoid hot tubs and the like.  An ovulation predictor can also help a woman to know when she is ovulating.

So, there are no guarantees that any of these tips and reminders will work for you, but again, it’s always best to try the most natural fertility treatments first before opting for invasive surgeries or expensive drugs.

The Myths Surrounding the Causes of Infertility in Women

If you are a woman who is experiencing what you think are reproductive challenges, or you’ve already been given the diagnosis of infertility from your OB/GYN, then it’s important for you to separate the facts from the fiction when it comes to the causes of infertility in women.  After all, if you find yourself believing something that is not true or not applicable in your case, you may wind up wasting precious time ignoring the real problems.

So what are those common myths when it comes to the causes of infertility in women?  And better yet, what is the truth about those beliefs?  Let’s examine a few here.

Myth:  It’s all in your head.

This myth may have developed over the years as some couples have dealt with infertility for some time, and then eventually were able to conceive on their own.  Others may view this as a reason to believe that reproductive problems are simply stress related or that a couple is being overly sensitive to their situation.  Yes, stress and such things can be pinpointed as one of the causes of infertility in women, but it certainly is not the only cause, and not even the most common!

Advances in modern science that can plainly pinpoint different problems with a man’s or a woman’s reproductive system should have squelched this myth years ago, but unfortunately it seems to continue to thrive.  Despite the abilities we have to look deep into the body’s reproductive system and find even the smallest of defects which can be one of the causes of infertility in women, some still think it’s simply a mental challenge.

Myth:  Miscarriage is a common cause of infertility in women.

First of all, it’s important to remember that in most cases of miscarriage, there was nothing the woman could have done to prevent it.  Rarely is it ever caused by stress, overworking, and the like.

It’s also important to remember that miscarriage itself is really not a cause of infertility of women; most doctors regard it as simply a possible symptom of a larger problem.  Many miscarriages that are caused by such things as exposure to environmental and workplace hazards, such as high levels of radiation, hormonal problems, uterine abnormalities, incompetent cervix, and severe medical conditions can be considered a symptom, as these are some of the common causes of infertility in women as well.

Myth:  If you’ve already had a baby, you’re not infertile.

Neck and Back Stretches for Beginners

There's a vast array of stretching routines that target your back and neck, most of them easy and effective. If you're a newbie trying to loosen up, give these easy techniques a try.

Simple Back Stretch

One of the most useful stretches you can do for your spine is the basic back stretch. Follow these directions: Stand upright, contract your abdominal muscles while bending forward at your hips, and lower your hands to the floor. Then relax your head down and push with your fingertips while you feel the stretch in your back. Hold this pose for 30 seconds; if you find this too difficult, build up slowly to this length of time.

Wide Back and Shoulder Stretch

This move follows right after the basic back stretch. While your hands are still on the floor, stand with your feet wide apart and your arms positioned on the inside of your legs. Lift your hands off the floor and wrap your arms around the back of the calves, then grasp your ankles. Gently pull with your hands, which will open up your shoulders and stretch your upper back. Maintain this pose for about 30 seconds.

Shoulder Rolls

A shoulder roll is one of the easiest stretches you can do. Sit or stand comfortably, then rotate your shoulders up, back, down and forward, in that order. Start with small circles and work up to a larger movement. Do 10 circles in the backwards direction, then reverse direction and do 10 repetitions going forward.

Don't forget that a stitch in time saves nine; take care that you avoid movements and actions that will cause back and neck pain. Maintaining good posture is essential. Take care when lifting heavy objects. You should first bend down, and let your legs, not your back, take the load when you lift.

How you sleep at night also impacts the discomfort you feel in your neck and back. A properly supportive pillow and mattress are important, and keep the temperature set right so that you don't have a restless sleep. Doing some light stretches right before bed will relax your muscles and get you ready for a restful night.

Food And Sex Is Not A Fad Diet

Two of the greatest things in our lives that we need and enjoy are food and sex. Some people might say that you don’t have to have sex, and others say there is no such thing as to much sex. But, the fact is we all need a certain amount sex.

Food, on the other hand, is both a pleasure and a necessity and this is where the problem starts for approximately 70% of the population. We enjoy our food, therefore we over eat and eat too much of the wrong things.

Have you noticed that everyone seems to be starting some new fad diet next week? Some of your friends are starting the South Beach Diet and another is starting the Fat Smash Diet, and someone else is still trying the Adkins Diet.

We try every new diet that hits the market – including the low-carb, no-carb, low-fat, no-fat, and even the grapefruit diet and they're all just fad diets. And it goes on and on, one fad diet after another and the weight just goes up and down like a yo-yo.

The simple truth - The basic principal behind any diet is to eat less food and to eat food that contains fewer calories. Then your body is forced to use your fat for the energy it needs, because it’s not getting it from the diet.

However, this is a problem with short-term fad diets, they also have to be tasty and nutritionally sound. Banning certain types of foods is not a solution. Anyone following such a diet will eventually have to acknowledge that they want those foods (or the body may need those foods) and they will probably relapse back into their old eating habits. Here we see the “yo-yo effect” in action, - again.

We should realize that there is no magic formula or magic wand for losing weight for the long term. We just need to cut down on the intake of excess calories and start exercising (which helps burn body fat to lose the weight).

Healthy eating, low-calorie foods, fresh fruits and vegetables and regular physical activity are the effective ways to lose weight and keep it off.

Also, to help curb your appetite and maintain your weight, try a diet pill that has been medically approved, tested and endorsed by medical doctors. If you need help controlling your appetite, we recommend the appetite suppressant Proactol
The main thing is to keep a clear head and be honest with yourself. Keep everything steady and slow.

Top Heart risk factors

6 Top Risk Factors for Heart Disease

Heart disease is a killer that does not discriminate between men and women or even the various cultures or socioeconomic backgrounds. In fact, it has been called a universal killer because more people die from heart disease each year than other illnesses – several million a year worldwide! With some people, heart disease is not even a blip on their radar because they don't even know they have it! Others have a variety of health problems and know they are at greater risk than the average person for heart disease because of those problems.

Knowing what the risk factors are can greatly help in reducing your chances of developing heart disease. While there are likely dozens of contributing causes, there are six top risk factors for heart disease – with several that you can do something about. Here they are:

1.  Hypertension – Also known as high blood pressure, hypertension is one of the leading contributors to heart disease. Why? Blood pressure basically is a measure of the force of the blood flow. The greater that force is, the more likely it is to cause problems, especially when other factors exist. The longer hypertension goes unchecked the more likely you are to develop hardening of the arteries, thickening of the heart muscle and much more. Exercise and diet can lower hypertension but sometimes medications are necessary to help.

2.A nicotine habit can be life controlling: Smoking. Smoking can promote the collection of fatty deposits in the blood which can lead to arterial blockage and heart disease. It also promotes narrowing of the arteries which requires the heart to pump harder to push oxygen through the body and results in hypertension.

3.  Diabetes – This metabolic disease affects how insulin is produced and absorbed in the body. People with diabetes have a greater chance of developing several conditions that lead to heart disease such as narrowing of the arteries, arterial damage and hardening of the arteries. This condition can also affect the muscles, of which the heart is one of the most important ones.

4.  High cholesterol – Cholesterol is important to the body as it is a necessary component for the healthy lining of body cells and blood vessels. You get cholesterol from foods as well as normal liver function. Even if you eat virtually no cholesterol, your body should be able to produce enough to adequately sustain healthy cells and blood vessels. Therefore, adding more cholesterol via the diet can boost cholesterol beyond normal limits in the blood. When this happens, plaque can build up along the arterial walls causing not only hardening of the arteries but also narrowing as well. Contributing to heart disease by placing more burdens on the heart to pump harder to get oxygen and nutrients to the body.

5. Obesity – Being hugely overweight contributes to a variety of other factors which in turn can develop into heart disease. Obesity means that you are likely to have higher cholesterol levels, problems with insulin production and absorption (diabetes issues) and more. When you lose the weight, less poundage removes some of the burden on your body and reduces heart disease risk.

6.  Family genetics – Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about family history and propensity towards heart disease. What you can change is how you live your life. A healthy diet low in fats and cholesterol and high in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other heart healthy substances can go a long way towards preventing the development of heart disease in you. Add clean living (no smoking or alcohol) and exercise and you have a winning trifecta against heart disease.

Folic Acid Can Help Boost Fetal Health In Pregnant Women

Folic acid is an important vitamin to the developing fetus in that it aids cell development, particularly those cells involved in the development of the baby's spine.  A deficiency can result in neural tube defects, in which the neural tube, down through which the central nervous system passes, fails to close properly.

However, let's first discuss the substance itself so that its function in that process can be more easily understood.  Neither should we ignore the other benefits that folic acid gives us, or the problems we can have in the event of a deficiency.

Folic acid is a form of Vitamin B9, sometimes referred to as Vitamin M.  Its anionic form is known as folate, which is the form in which it is frequently offered in supplements. Incidentally, it gets its name from the Latin for leaf, so is from the same root as foliage. It is water soluble, and like Vitamin C can be leached through the body if not immediately used.

It is available naturally from leafy and green vegetables such as lettuce, broccoli, spinach and peas, but is also available in fortified breakfast cereals, sunflower seeds and some fruits. You would not normally suffer a deficiency, but if you are taking anticonvulsants, have liver problems or undergoing kidney dialysis, then you might need a supplement. Pregnancy, of course, is the important case in which a supplement should be taken, although, surprisingly, many mothers-to-be are unaware of this.

New body cells need folate for their production, particularly when they are dividing and growing rapidly such as during pregnancy and in infancy.  The formation of DNA depends on many chemical entities, among them four nitrogenous bases, of which three, thymine and the two purine bases, adenine and guanine, depend on folate for their synthesis. If the growing fetus is lacking folate then DNA synthesis will be hindered. This retards cell division and growth.

Among the conditions this can cause are a form of anemia known as megaloblastic anemia, and neural tube deficiencies, where the sheath that surrounds the main nerve canal up the spine fails to close properly. The best known of such neural tube defects is spina bifida, though any condition caused by a lack of cell division can also occur. Anemia can be contracted by both adults and children, since production of red blood cells takes place constantly throughout your lifetime.  These are the reasons why folic acid or folate is used in breakfast cereals.

The biochemistry is fairly simple to understand, and is important because it explains the importance of two other B vitamins, B3 and B12, in DNA synthesis. The initial stages are a six step reaction that forms methyl tetrahydrofolate from folate, starting with the reduction of folate to dihydrofolate, and then a further reduction to the tetrahydrofolate (THF).  Vitamin B3 (in the form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate) is an essential cofactor for these reductions. Vitamin B12 is necessary as an acceptor for the methyl-THF so that it can continue along the biochemical pathway - now that is too complex to discuss here!

However, the inference you can rightly draw from this is that a deficiency of Vitamin B12 can cause what is known as a 'methyl trap', whereby the methy-THF cannot be used, and so a deficiency in Vitamin B12 can lead to the same symptoms as a folic acid deficiency.

The implications of that are that vitamin B12 is also an essential component of a pregnant woman's diet.  The problem here is that this vitamin is available only from animal sources, including dairy products.  Its presence in vegetable organisms such as certain algae and fungi has been proposed, but it is believed that the cobalamin (chemical term for the vitamin) from these sources is not bioavailable to humans.

Vegans, therefore, who do not eat dairy products, will need a Vitamin B12 supplement in addition to folic acid or folate, particularly when they are pregnant and with young growing children. In this respect, a vegan diet is unsuitable for young children until their rapid growth period has stabilized.

For those of you wondering why the biochemistry above was discussed:  that is your answer.  Such discussions can frequently explain why certain supplements are necessary, or certain diets should be reconsidered under particular circumstances. Such things are easier to understand and accept when the logic behind them are explained.  A folic acid supplement taken from the onset of pregnancy up to 12 weeks at least, and also a Vitamin B12 supplement in the case of those with a low meat intake, should prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida.

A daily supplement of 0.4 mg should be sufficient, along with a diet rich in green vegetables, fortified cereals and breads and oranges.  Your greens are best steamed since prolonged boiling destroys folic acid - as it destroys Vitamin C.  One source of folic acid that you might read about is liver, and its additional iron content might lead you to believe this to be a good component of your diet when pregnant.   However, although normally a very nutritious food, liver should be avoided during pregnancy due to its high Vitamin A content. This can be harmful to your baby.

Finally, there are some circumstances under which the dose during pregnancy should be greater.  If you have previously had a child with a neural tube defect, or have an NTD yourself (or your partner), if you are diabetic, if you have celiac disease (a gluten allergy) or are taking anti-epileptic medication, you should increase your dose to 5 mg (milligrams) for which you will likely need a prescription from your physician.

NTD is rare, so don't over-worry much about it, but take the above precautions to put your mind at rest since pregnancy is not a time during which you should be nervous but to enjoy. That will pass on to your growing baby, which will then itself be happy.

Fighting Back Age Facial Wrinkles

Imagine combating facial wrinkles with stem cells, emu oil or bovine collagen. It may sound like something from a Frankenstein movie, but there are a number of scientific breakthrough skin solutions that are perfectly safe and effective. Wrinkle treatments can be as easy as purchasing anti wrinkle creams from Wal-mart or as complex as undergoing laser surgery and cryotherapy.

The first thing to try is one of the many creams on the market. Facial wrinkles can generally be fought by triggering the body's natural rejuvenating, cleansing and exfoliating processes. Anti wrinkle creams traditionally contain Vitamin A, B, C, E and coenzyme Q10. Creams targeting wrinkles include: Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Anti Wrinkle Cream, Retinol-A or L'Oreal's Line Eraser. Alpha Hydroxy Acids are good for people who may be sensitive to strong ingredients in Retinol. Peptide products like StriVectin, Olay's Regenerist Serum or Estée Lauder's Perfectionist may be more suitable for sensitive skin.

For more persistent wrinkles and telltale signs of aging, there are collagen fillers done via injection. This relatively inexpensive procedure will cost an average of $300, but generally needs to be redone two or three times per year to maintain maximum efficiency. In some cases, the collagen stimulates the body's natural processes and less maintenance is required. Doctors use either bovine-based or human-based collagen that has undergone a purification process. The anesthesia Lidocaine is mixed in with the collagen so patients don't feel a thing. After 30 to 60 minutes, the procedure is done and the patient is free to go. Results show up once the swelling goes down. Cosmetic surgery is not covered under health insurance plans, but most surgeons offer financing plans for any budget. Compared to Botox injections, collagen is more flexible and is said to be much more natural looking.

Each year, Americans purchase over $6.4 Billion worth of "cosmeceuticals" and creams targeting facial wrinkles. Whether prescribed or purchased over-the-counter, this non-invasive option appeals to many consumers who'd rather not be bothered with medical procedures. In addition to anti wrinkle creams and injections, cryotherapy, or freezing, and microdermabrasion treatments, which involves scraping off the top layer of the skin, may be performed. After any process, though, it is important to stock up on sunscreen and avoid further skin damage from the sun.

Do not let wrinkles get you down. There is no need to let them win the fight in the war against looking older than you actually are and you can do something about them. You do not have to resort to bizarre procedures or cosmetic surgery. You can fight the signs of aging with a variety of techniques that save you the cost of Botox or cosmetic surgery. Is it not worth giving it a try? Most come with money back guarantees for you to see a difference within a few days to weeks. Start your fight by clicking here:
